The Brief
Keep a priceless object on display, even when it’s locked away.
Every winter, Tomáš Baťa’s gold watch leaves the memorial for safe storage, away from freezing temperatures — and for months, visitors can’t see it at all.
The memorial wanted it present year-round: an accurate replica anyone could open on their phone from a marker in the hall, explore in detail, and share beyond the building.
The Approach
Two capture methods, because gold won’t sit still for one.
Glossy gold scatters light, which defeats a single scanner. So we combined photogrammetry with structured-light 3D scanning to capture both the reflective surface and the exact proportions, producing a true-to-life digital replica.
The model holds the watch’s detail and craftsmanship for the long term — explorable on any phone and placeable in the hall as an AR experience.
The Impact
A 90-year-old object, on display for good.
The watch is never really off display again. Visitors meet it in any month, in detail the glass case never allowed, and take it home in their pocket.
